As we enjoy the spooky fun, let’s look out for each other in the community.
Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service have issued some important safety advice:
- Costumes should have a UKCA or CE mark, which shows that it complies with safety standards. When shopping online, it’s advisable to buy from legitimate UK sources to make sure that the products comply with UK safety standards.
- Battery operated lights are much safer than candles to use in homemade lanterns and pumpkins.
- Be aware of the risk to clothing, costumes and curtains when celebration candles are in use. Do not move a candle when it is lit
In the garden, keep children and pets away from garden candles and lanterns. - Remember to ensure all candles are not left unattended in any room and are out before leaving the house or extinguished before bedtime
And we can make this Halloween safe and fun for everyone by being considerate of our neighbours.
If you plan to go trick or treating:
– Respect the wishes of those who display a “No Trick or Treat “sign. Please only visit the homes of people you know well & clearly displaying Halloween decorations.
If you are worried about trick or treaters
– Don’t open your door if unsure who is there. Have a contact number of a close relative or friend/ neighbour by the phone in case you need to phone them.
Remember, if a crime is in progress call 999.
For non emergencies, you can report crimes and Anti-Social Behaviour on this link or by calling 101.
