We were pleased to support the successful Gloucester County Council Holiday and Activity Food Program which provided food and activities to school aged children over the Easter holidays. The packs were accessible to families of children who would usually receive free school meals.
Alongside partners across the City, on the week of 5th April GCH set up a collection point for local families at the Fountain Square Community Hub in Westgate. As well as this GCH also donated almost 1300 cress growing activity kits to provide children with a new activity to try and helped with delivering and transporting packs to locations around the City.
Mandi Holt, Community Investment Team Leader at GCH commented “It was brilliant to support and engage with local families over the week and it was a great opportunity to promote the community support that we have started offering from the new Fountain Square Hub. We have already seen some of the families again at our weekly ‘recipe bag’ scheme and we are looking forward to supporting the community more in new and different ways as COVID restrictions ease.
We are really proud to have been involved in making this ambitious project into a success alongside a number of other community partners.”
Feedback was really good and one local resident said “These bags are amazing, such a help. So impressed with the kit and den making kit. Thank you so much.”
Dawn Barnes, Project Manager at The Venture, White City added “The scale of the Easter project was like nothing we have done before, it was a huge task delivering 5180 home cooking kits and 4000 activity packs over 4 days. It was a great combined effort involving numerous partners, their staff and volunteers and was a huge success.”
